At Towie School, reading books are banded according to difficulty. Children will typically progress through the book-bands as they move through the yeargroups, and may move onto non-banded novels in the final years of primary school.
Children in the lower primary take part in guided reading sessions in class each week, and it is expected that, as part of homework, children will read with a family member at home each evening to further develop their skills.
Each year we hold a Reading Workshop for parents, to share our approaches to teaching phinics and reading.
